    Caritas Marsabit is the Development and Humanitarian arm of the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit. Caritas Marsabit supports the integral human development of local communities in Marsabit County especially the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities. Caritas Marsabit champions the objectives of the Pastoral Department of the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit.

    The organization is currently seeking to fill the position of the, for its WASH department. The role of the WASH Manager at Caritas Marsabit holds significant importance in advancing the mission of the organization toward integral human development in Marsabit County. By spearheading water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives, the WASH Manager will directly impact the lives of vulnerable communities, ensuring access to clean water and promoting health and well-being.

    This position involves coordinating project planning, implementation, and stakeholder engagement to achieve lasting positive change. The WASH Manager will serve as a key advocate for the most marginalized populations, driving forward the objectives of Caritas Marsabit and contributing to the overall improvement of living conditions in the region.

    Main Purpose of the Job

    The Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Manager will provide technical support as well as coordinate Caritas Marsabit WASH team in the implementation of WASH programs in the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit.  The WASH Manager will ensure effective and timely implementation of the project activities as well as coordinate timely reporting and documentation.  S/he is responsible for appropriately and proactively advising Caritas Marsabit Senior Management in matters relating to the role and WASH department.

    Key relationships to the role:

    Internal:  Caritas Director, Deputy Director & HOPs, Programme Managers, and

    uni staff.

    External: Partners, Donors, Communities, CSOs, CBOs, GoK/County and Regional line Ministries namely Ministry of Water and Environment, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Education. Authorities such Northern Water Services Board, Regional Water Resources Management Authority, and various Catholic Parishes.

  • Job Responsibility

    Program Planning and Implementation:

    ·       Organize and coordinate assessments, feasibility studies, surveys, and design of water and sanitation facilities.

    ·       Supervise the construction of water and sanitation facilities, ensuring conformance with specifications.

    ·       Manage WASH programs to meet project objectives within budget and timeframe.

    ·       Develop WASH project proposals following organizational policies and procedures.

    ·       Provide strong leadership to the WASH team to ensure positive impacts and outcomes for beneficiaries.

    ·       Coordinate technical studies, including feasibility studies, baseline surveys, and evaluations.

    ·       Design water and sanitation facilities to meet standards.

    ·       Conduct water quality testing and monitoring.

    ·       Coordinate community training on management, operation, and maintenance.

    ·       Identify, monitor, manage, and communicate risks, and constraints, and escalate appropriately.

    ·       Develop detailed implementation plans aligned with organizational strategies.

     

    Project Reporting and Documentation:

    ·       Prepare timely progress reports according to organizational and donor requirements.

    ·       Coordinate continuous documentation and dissemination of lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.

    ·       Monitor and supervise WASH activities, evaluating progress through quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.

    ·       Regularly visit field activities to assess progress and provide feedback.

     

    Networking, Representation, and Collaboration:

    ·       Coordinate with other departments to ensure a common approach and sharing of information.

    ·       Represent Caritas Marsabit WASH program in various coordination forums and meetings.

    ·       Collaborate with stakeholders to identify suitable locations for water supply systems.

    ·       Ensure stakeholder involvement at all stages of the project's life cycle.

    ·       Maintain relationships with partner organizations, line ministries, and audience groups.

    ·       Facilitate planning meetings and workshops with government, NGO, and community partners.

    ·       Ensure close coordination and information sharing with relevant stakeholders.

  • Educational Requirement

    ·       A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Water Engineering, Or another related Engineering field.

    ·       Relevant Professional Certification (eg Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) or, other related certification).

  • Experience Requirement

    •      Minimum of 5 years experience working on community-based water and sanitation projects within an NGO setting.

      ·       Experience working with and through local partners in a WASH Program within an Arid and Semi-arid context.

      ·       Strong understanding of cross-cutting issues such as Gender, Social Behavior Change.

      ·       Proven experience in program development and proposal writing.

      ·       Effective planning, coordination, leadership, and excellent communication skills.

            Experience in the use of technical design software

      ·       Competencies in management, leadership, and strategic direction.
