Celebrating World Toilet Day

triggering-world-toilet-day-3 Triggering process at Kurkum, Kargi, Laisamis Sub-County[/caption] In Marsabit County most parts of the county lack toilets due to lack of sensitization on the importance of toilets as well as lack of resources to build toilets especially in the villages where most of the population use bushes and rivers as open defecation areas. Open defecation practice has severe impact in the community through poor health, illnesses like diarrhea and cholera, decreased productivity as well as reduced concentration of pupils in school, absenteeism and exhaustion. So far Caritas Marsabit have facilitated triggering process in most part of the county including Kurkum, Korr, Arapal, Elmollo, Idido, Funan Qumbi, Ellebor, Golole and Balesa. CLTS does not specify technical standards for toilets. This is a benefit in terms of keeping the costs of constructing toilets very low and allowing villagers to start building their own toilets immediately using the local ready available materials. Be part of this great initiative and sensitize your community on the importance of building a toilet for every house hold.   By Wilfred Letawa, Caritas Marsabit Communication Intern
